Will Heiberg

Picture
Will decided that he was going to open an indoor mountain bike park halfway through his fourth rainy winter in Portland. That was 2006. The road to the Lumberyard has taken tremendous dedication, and when it comes to mountain biking that is something Will never lacks.

Will has been a leader in the Portland mountain biking community for many years.  He helped rebrand the Northwest Trail Alliance and made it more accessible for the riding community. Will continues to advocate, sustain and build off-road riding opportunities in the Pacific Northwest as a member of the Northwest Trail Alliance.

Will is passionate about making mountain biking more accessible to kids and families. In 2009, he created a mobile bicycle skills course and provided it through the Northwest Trail Alliance at Sunday Parkways and other family-centered events around Portland. Will’s work has paved the way for the new bike skill areas popping up in Portland parks.

For Will, the Lumberyard is an essential ingredient in the progression of mountain biking in the Northwest. Through his vision, the mountain biking community now has an easily accessible place to play, rain or shine.

Teaming up with Will in 2010, Michael helped turn the Lumberyard dream into a reality.

Michael is an Oregon native and has been mountain biking since his college days in Eugene. Back in the day (80’s), Michael’s mother bought him a Specialized Stump Jumper with Biopace chain rings. He was hooked.

Michael continued to ride and became an active board member and Treasurer of the Northwest Trail Alliance, where he and Will first met. When Will pitched Michael on the idea of the Lumberyard during a wet, muddy ride, he knew that Will was on to something big.

Michael is no stranger to start-up concepts and innovation.  Michael has an MBA from Portland State University and has helped many small and medium-sized businesses get off the ground. He is an entrepreneur and has invested in a variety of businesses ranging from high-end modular housing to Portland tech start-ups.

The Lumberyard is the perfect mash-up for Michael—an innovative business combined with the sport that he loves most.
